Reflecting on the Qur’an is the first module in a brand-new, transformative online education programme - Roots Essentials Online.

Roots Essentials Online aims to transform the lives of Muslim professionals and university students who are unable to attend in-person courses, through five 10-week online modules with interactive live sessions.

The online format offers flexibility while maintaining the interactivity of in-person sessions, and participants will receive physical workbooks and certification upon completion of all modules.

What is Roots Essentials Online?

Our flagship Essentials Programme is a 5-module, transformative educational program designed to bring Muslims closer to their creator. Each module re-packages fard ‘ayn (individually obligatory) knowledge in a way that provokes deep reflection and a transformation in both the mindset and behaviour of students.

The other four modules are:

Certainty

An evidence-based inquiry into the fundamental truths of Islam, based on rational and textual proofs. Understand what it means to be a believer, how to substantiate and experience the sweetness of Iman, and how to nurture Iman.

Worship

Learn how to become a worshipper. Internalise both the outer and inner dimensions of worship starting with purity, prayer, fasting and Zakat.

Practical Spirituality

Grow spiritually through remembering Allah and connecting with Him. Learn about and adorn yourself with good characteristics, and unlearn and leave off bad characteristics.

The Messenger

Explore the mercy, humility, and wisdom of Allah’s final messenger by studying the major events in his life.

Meet Your Instructor

Ustadh Hisham Abu Yusuf

Ustadh Hisham Abu Yusuf holds a BA in Islamic Studies from the Al Azhar University in Egypt, a BEng in Electrical Engineering, and a MSc in Senior Leadership. He has had a successful career holding leadership roles in startups and large corporations.

He has served as the Muslim Chaplain at the University of Nottingham, as well as an Imam, Khatib, and teacher to young adults for over a decade.

He is the Chair of Trustees at Roots Academy and a founding member of the organisation.
